12,000-Year-Old Structures Found Near Bimini

In the July, 2009, issue of Alternate Perceptions Magazine, Dr. Lora Little and Dr. Greg Little published an archeological reconstruction of 35 square and rectangular formations located in 90-feet of water, about 5 miles off Bimini Island in the western Bahamas. Lying on the edge of the 10,000 BC shoreline, this series of well-spaced, similarly oriented rectangular and square formations are all the size and shape of buildings, platforms, and even occasionally seem to have ramps and multiple tiers. In places, what appear to be smaller stone blocks are seen in the sides of the formations giving them the appearance of buildings. Prior articles on expeditions to this area can be found here.

Stay tuned, because I’ve had the privilege of seeing some underwater photos of other structures in the same area and this could be the archaeological find of the century!

Bimini Underwater Rectangles Yield Stunning Finds

Drs. Greg and Lora Little have posted a new report on their continuing exploration of the mysterious, rectangular shapes 100 feet below the surface west of the Bimini Road structure in the Bahamas. Still not ready to make any definitive claims, Lora says, “It may well be that the remains of man made structures are truly on the edge of this 10,000 BC shoreline—which would be a stunning and completely mind-boggling discovery.” Her detailed report can be found in its entirety at:

http://www.mysterious-america.net/may2009biminirep.html.

As I’ve previously mentioned, I’ve had an opportunity to see the original side-scan sonar images recorded during the November, 2006 expedition led by Bill Donato and they certainly appear to show rectangular, intentionally placed structures of some kind on the ocean floor. In their professional and conservative tradition, the Little’s aren’t making any claims just yet, but each expedition creeps closer to the day when a 12,000 year old culture will be confirmed in the NEW WORLD! Because of the similarities between stone anchors found in the Bahamas and those used by the ancient Phoenicians, one can’t help wondering which anchors were fashioned first!

More Updates from Dr. Greg Little

Is a big discovery/announcement just around the corner? Dr. Greg Little has posted several newsworthy items on a message board called Atlantis Online that hint at big things to come. (http://atlantisonline.smfforfree2.com/index.php). Although Bill Donato will not be making the trip, I have personally seen the side-scan sonar images that Greg Little refers to below and – in my opinion – there’s no question that they show building foundations on the ocean floor. If they are actually 12,000 years old, all those archaeology books you have in your library will soon be worthless!

Just a brief update. My wife Lora and I returned from the Bahamas a day ago after filming for a “Bermuda Triangle” show that will air on the National Geographic Channel. We had found an intriguing plane underwater during one of our earlier trips and had no time to investigate it then. For this show we completely focused on this plane. At the moment–pending final ID on several plane part numbers we retrieved– we believe it is one of the most important and mysterious disappearances in the region. (No, it is NOT a Flight-19 plane, but we can’t release more details on it yet.) I don’t know when that show will air, but I have seen the film the Nat Geo crew shot of the investigation. They were far more excited about it than we were. By the way, they also shot a series of film “blog” reports they will post on the Nat Geo website. These are candid and somewhat humorous clips, a few of which I shot. They aren’t posted yet as far as I can tell.

Oddly, while there, we were asked in a phone call and we subsequently agreed to go back this coming week with a History Channel crew to perform an analysis on a deep water set of structures first found by archaeologist Bill Donato in a side-scan sonar project. Our subsequent visit to the site yielded an intriguing photo of what looks like building foundations on the bottom. We leave in a few days and will be accompanied by Donato and the film crew and substantial back-up technology to accomplish this. This could potentially yield very big news and there has been an incredible amount of other research in this area that we can’t discuss yet. The show is due to air in late June or July and could instantly change the way the Bahamas are viewed archaeologically. This will be the culmination of a lot of work by a whole lot of people. Lora and I are just the latest in a long line of people who have spent their own money and devoted their time to truly uncover what is actually there. The formations we are investigating are located just above the 10,000 BC shoreline–the time of Plato and Cayce’s Atlantis.

One more little detail. As many know we investigated the alleged pyramids in Florida and found nothing. We also had plans to look around the Berry Islands for a pyramid supposedly found by Dr. Ray Brown in the early 70′s. Our main Bahama contact has been conducting preliminary searches in the Berry chain for us and now we suspect that what Brown found back then may have finally been located. If we have time and the weather is good, we’ll take a detour next week to have a close look–both filming and photographing it. I have a good description of it, but until we actually document it, there is no reason to give that description. I know a lot of people have long been interested in the Ray Brown story and it may actually have a basis.

Best,
Greg Little

An Update from Dr. Greg Little

As a follow-up to the previous post (Submerged building structure found near Bimini?) Dr. Greg Little provided some interesting background information to Paul Bader, who runs the Atlantis News Yahoo Group blog at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/AtlantisNews/. The information that follows was posted on a private Yahoo Group only available to members of Bill Donato’s APEX Institute (http://www.apexinstitute.org).

“We have recently made 3 documentaries with 2 Canadian TV networks, one with the International History Channel and the other 2 with Vision TV. Those are on Atlantis, Cayce’s 1940 prediction, and one on underwater cities for the series ‘Go Deep.’

“We also made several long expeditions. At Bimini we found the most definitive evidence ever found that the stone structure there is man-made. That will show on the fourth episode of a new series on History, with their premiere episode on the Bermuda Triangle and some of our finds there. We return to Andros in early April (09) to shoot a short piece for a completely different series and have agreed to do another show with The National Geographic Channel sometime in the next 2 months, all in the Bahamas.

“Yes, I do think that Bimini was a part of Atlantis as was Andros and the Great Bahama Bank and Cuba, etc. The main evidence of Atlantis (to me) is at the 90-foot level on an ancient shoreline … about 5 miles off Bimini. Over the past year the A.R.E. has done side-scan sonar of the entire area as well as using an ROV to get video … there is a lot of video. None of that has been shown. When the weather is right we’ll do a close inspection of it.”

In a second post on the private APEX Yahoo Group, Greg answers several questions posed by Paul Bader.

“The definitive evidence at Bimini… We essentially randomly and unintentionally anchored on a spot where we had not been before. When we dove, immediately we found we were right on top of multiple tiers and an area where every skeptical assertion could easily be shown to be false. Blocks on blocks, obviously cut rectangular blocks were found stacked under the big stones everywhere, wedge stones were pulled out, tool marks were seen on many…we even flipped over some big blocks showing how other slabs had been stacked up to level them…and found a cube stone lithified under a big block. The film, which was done in a special HD, was the best I’ve ever seen, it’s like the water isn’t there.

“When the sea levels were lower–110-feet lower in 10,000 BC–the Bimini Road area was about 85-feet above the sea level. Because of features “under” the big blocks, it may be that this area served as a building foundation, or the leveled area where some sort of structure stood. That is complete speculation of course. What isn’t speculation is that what is there now was constructed and or altered by human hands sometime in the remote past.

“The use of the ‘Bimini Road’ as a harbor probably took place around 3000 BC. I had never really speculated about that precise area’s use when it was above water, circa 10,000 BC. The question is, what was there in earlier times before it was used as a harbor? In truth, I can pose that question but I’m not quite certain what it will take to accurately
answer it.

“Two more things. Off Andros at 60+ feet there is a step-like feature cut
into an underwater wall near the Tongue of the Ocean. Off one of the
Berry Islands there is an elevated pile of huge blocks. We have to
investigate these thoroughly before we put out more info on them.”

With several more trips to the Bahamas planned in the coming months, Drs. Greg and Lora Little should have a great of information to share this summer. I’ll continue to monitor the Yahoo groups and report anything of significance.

On a personal note, I’ll be moving to Baja Mexico in mid-May where I hope to investigate the mysterious pre-Columbian cave paintings that have been preserved there. For some background information, visit http://www.bajaquest.com/cavepaintings/.

Submerged Building Structure Found Near Bimini

Drs. Greg and Lora Little returned to Bimini and Andros Islands in late January/early February as part of the A.R.E.’s Search for Atlantis project. About 70 miles SSW of Bimini, they located what they believe to be the remnants of a submerged building structure that includes large stone blocks and wooden beams. Greg Little estimates the age of the structure to be more than 5,000 years old because that’s when the Great Bahama Bank was last above the water.

Read Dr. Little’s complete report here:  http://mysterious-america.net/atlantissearch20.html

Be sure to check out the links to independent trip reports by Stan and Kim Prachniak. Stan’s first-hand account of snorkeling over Bimini Road is excellent!

In his report, Dr. Little describes a very brief visit to AUTEC, the Navy’s version of Area 51. AUTEC is located on the east side of Andros Island, adjacent to the 6,000+ deep Tongue of the Ocean feature. The AUTEC facility is also used as one of the locations in my most recent novel, Triangle, which takes place in Cuba and on Andros and Bimini Islands.

The Littles plan to return to the Bahamas in March, April, May and June to conduct further investigations and to revisit the building structure.

Erich von Daniken Returns!

After years of relative obscurity, it appears that Erich von Daniken (Chariots of the Gods, The Gods Were Astronauts, Pathways to the Gods and more) is staging a comeback on the History Channel this month. The 2009 TV special titled Ancient Aliens features von Daniken and bills itself as follows:

“What if life on Earth began in outer space? Millions of people accept the theory that intelligent life forms visited Earth thousands of years ago and were worshiped as gods by primitive man. Are monuments like Stonehenge and Easter Island the last remains of an ancient alien visitation? From unexplainable super structures, to knowledge of the solar system, mathematics, and even the ability to make electricity, this special explores evidence of super-human influences on ancient man and embarks on an around-the-world search for answers. It’s an investigation into a theory some believe cannot be true, but many agree cannot be ignored.”

While many people believe that von Daniken’s writings are simply theories created to connect a number of (possibly) unrelated facts, there are others who think the “ancient aliens” theory is the only logical explanation for the quantum leaps in scientific knowledge that have occurred throughout history.

Whatever the truth is, I used the theory as a foundation on which to build my Seeds of Civilization series of novels (http://www.SeedsOfCivilization.com). The underlying theme that ties the three novels together is a series of real-life artifacts that are unmistakably alien in origin – a mysterious sphere in Tractrix, an ancient Ninja weapon in Tsubute and an odd-shaped “coin” in Triangle. Near the end of the third book, readers learn about a million-year-old effort to keep human-kind from becoming extinct – an effort that’s in its thirty-seventh and last phase!

Google Earth 5.0 (beta)

As you’ve probably noticed, news in the underwater archaeology business has all but dried up – no pun intended! For some reason, news about a rapidly collapsing world economy seems to be taking precedence lately, but I think I found one story you may find interesting.

Fresh out today is Google Earth 5.0 (beta) that claims to include (1) historical imagery from around the world, (2) ocean floor and surface data from marine experts and (3) simplified touring with audio and voice recording. Obviously, the second item caught my attention in a big way so I downloaded the new Google Earth software and “dove” in. There isn’t much info on the Web yet, but you can start at http://earth.google.com/ocean/. Here you will find more claims about being able to (1) dive beneath the surface, (2) explore the ocean with top marine experts, (3) learn about ocean observations and (4) discover new places including surf, dive and travel hot spots and shipwrecks.

I’m a huge fan of Google Earth and I’ve used it extensively when researching locations for my novels (see http://www.SeedsOfCivilization.com) so please don’t take any of the observations that follow as criticism – it is, after all, still a beta product.

So far, I haven’t had any success with the “dive beneath the surface” feature. I can get the eye altitude indicator to read -34,805 feet (the bottom of the Mariana – or Marianas – Trench) but I can’t see any features at ANY depth, ANYWHERE. If you’ve figured this one out, let me know and I’ll pass your how-to info on to our readers.

The rest of the ocean additions are provided by way of fly-out balloons activated when you click on the several new icons you will find. Spin the globe and look for red and white dive flags to see underwater videos. Blue and white tall ship icons will direct you to the locations of shipwrecks and the whales with a string of numbers nearby take you on a “swim” with a tagged marine creature. This is the only feature I found that actually gives you a glimpse of underwater terrain.

My biggest beef with GEv5 is that it frequently and regularly “locks up” and refuses to do anything. This could be due to the huge amount of traffic that’s probably hitting the Google Earth servers today or it could be still imperfect (i.e. beta) software, but it’s very frustrating. If I have any real work to do, I’ll have to go back to the last v4 edition.

As you know from my posts here, one of my biggest pet peeves is that everything academia tells about the history of our civilization(s) is based on a partial exploration of less than 30% of the planet – the part that sticks out of the water. With Version 5, Google Earth makes it a little easier for “armchair researchers” to explore, examine and speculate about the rest of the globe.

APEX Expeditions to Bimini: Past and Future

In my last post I briefly described a spring, 2009, expedition being planned by Bill Donato and the APEX Institute. As a result of the interest in this post, Mr. Donato agreed to provide a summary of his past expeditions to Bimini. What follows is a direct quote from him and sheds some light on why the upcoming expedition could prove to be archaeologically historic.

[QUOTE]
In 1993 “The Atlantis Organization” founded by William Donato, Vanda Osmon, and Thomas Vanderveer, began the first of the “Project: Alta” expeditions and were documented on television in the Secrets of the Deep episode “The Hunt for Atlantis”. During that expedition we used side-scan sonar in an effort to look for the remains of ancient man.

Prior to the last melting of the glaciers the Bahamas were all above the surface comprising a land mass of virtually thousands of square miles, in effect a “micro-continent.” We were initially looking for anomalies like the so-called Bimini Road (now verified as one of three features comprising a harbor complex like those in the Mediterranean) or other features that Dr. Manson Valentine had documented photographically after many years of investigations in the Bahamas. Most people don’t know that his investigations with associate Jim Richards included approximately 10 years of aerial investigations that showed numerous large-scale underwater geometric features, some of which ran for long distances. We verified some of these and discovered others, in particular a large pentagon to the south and east of Bimini between Cat Key and Ocean Key.

The 1993 expedition started at South Bimini, headed to the northern tip of North Bimini, went south along the drop-off, and ended at Gun Cay when the equipment failed. The side-scan unit was a “wet paper” type and GPS (“Global Positioning System”) coordinates were at about 100 yard intervals. We picked up at least 30 “anomalies” and only some of these have been investigated to date (2008). Because of some interesting geometric features underwater (multiple right angled features, concentric circles, etc.) we initiated another set of expeditions in November 1997 to do preliminary work for the the more expansive project in June 1998.

This entailed use of side-scan sonar, a submarine, aerial investigation, and on-site diving — as well as our first trip to investigate a site at Anguilla Cay, now believed to be a harbor site similar to the Bimini Road. The Anguilla site contains a large semi-circular enclosure first described by my associate Herbert Sawinski, who was of great help to us. I have since designated this feature the “Anguilla Arc”. The submarine investigations were done off of Gun Cay and North Bimini in a “Nekton Gamma” two-man submarine and a 105 foot support vessel. An anomaly was noted off Gun Cay that would not be understood until an associate’s later expedition using “tech divers” (deep gas mixture divers) and consisted of rectangular patterns of sand and vegetation). The remnants of an ancient waterfall were discovered by team member Steve Smith off Entrance Point. The late Donnie Fields also noted what may have been a megalithic stone block at depth. The side-scan sonar images were received by me a few weeks later and several appeared to show features underwater that were clearly not geological. A couple may have been debris or parts of ships, but some looked architectural.

The most interesting of these images I designated as “Target 1″ and “Target 2″, which an associate determined were only about 105 feet from each other. They are now believed to be part of the same site area. If it had not been for some “accidents” we might never have seen them. It was found that the “gain” was adjusted too high, but if it hadn’t been we may not have noticed the features. The side-scan fish was also very low. Typically it should be between 50 and 75 feet under the water (from what I have been told), but it was only 17 to about 23 feet from the bottom. This version of side-scan sonar was put out by “Marine Sonics” and records the data electronically, providing GPS coordinates for literally every pixel — a huge advance over the prior system. It can also measure the features. The features that got my attention had all the hallmarks of architecture and were proportional in size to human architecture.

The largest feature appeared to be a multi-tiered feature with a possible staircase and doorway at the top, analogous to a Maya-type “temple pyramid”. Because of the relative closeness of the side-scan “fish” to it neither the top nor the bottom could be seen, though there appeared to be about 7 tiers (like ziggurats?) and each tier upward was smaller than the one below it, also similar in size to those of the Mayas. In addition there was also what appeared to be an attached structure (also seen in Maya sites). The same image showed 2 ”post-litel” systems, one atop the other (about 12 feet long — megalithic?). At the “left” side of the image was what appeared to be a structure with 2 vertical support elements (pillars?) about 10 feet high and 2.5 feet thick, a staircase, a 75 foot long “wall”, and several “square” features that a Marine Sonics tech person said represented “hard targets” because they had square shadows in association with them. Target 2 had a rectangle measuring 31 by 65 feet. The technician could not explain it.

It is important to note that prior to this expedition there had been significant solar activity and the “Kosovo War”. When we attempted to verify these features in 1999 we could not locate them. It is possible that the aforementioned errors contributed to the GPS errors. One of the Ocean Technologies personnel estimated that the GPS was “off” by about 1/5 of a mile. Even though the $15,000 project did not locate the features, the side-scan re-located a target off of Gun Cay at a depth of about 112 feet over 50 feet long first detected in 1993. Also, the submarine showed us what appeared to be terrace-like features. It was uncertain whether some of these had stone walls or not. We touched bottom at 320 feet with very good visibility. The tech divers that Dr. Joan Hanley employed on an earlier investigation had reported what they described as foot paths and “switchbacks”. We also saw what appeared to be foot paths. Because we were not able, at that time, to locate the anomalies that looked like architectural features some thought that they might represent some sort of side-scan technical “glitch” or error. To me this seemed very unlikely because the features appeared very convincing in their measurements, orientations, and architectural appearance (somewhat reminiscent of the Maya “Puuc” style). The opinions held by our group were certainly NOT universal!

In order to determine whether these anomalies were real, and to investigate other anomalies, we planned an expedition that would include both side-scan sonar — to be used on the eastern side of Bimini — and a sub-bottom profiling project on the east side of East Bimini to determine why vegetation formed a 1/4 by 1/2 mile “rectangle”. Dr. Gregory Little had told me that, according to Dr. Michael Faught’s newest data, the sea level at circa 10,000 B.C. was about 110 feet lower than at the present (in 17,500 B.C. it may have been 320 to 340 feet lower). I had determined to cover a depth range of approximately 50 to 120 feet. Ronald Smith helped me arrange a scanning pattern that went just above the tip of North Bimini to just below South Bimini on the western side.  The suspected area of the anomalies was 3/5 of a mile wide, while the other grids were 2/5 of a mile wide. We did the scanning in November of 2006. Grids 1, 3, and 4 were completed, but rough water conditions prohibited the Ocean Technologies crew from completing one grid. On the first day out with the dive team our boat was contacted by the Ocean Tech team. They told me that they had something they thought would interest me. They were correct. What they showed me were some ”anomalies”. One had a rectangular stone, there were apparent coral heads (some of which appeared to be equally spaced), and other features that had the appearance of possible structures. On the first attempt to locate them diving we failed. There was only a flat ocean bottom at 96 feet. When I reported this to the Ocean Tech team they assured me that their data was of good reliability. They coordinated our GPS with theirs on the next day. Capt. Eslie Brown (of K&B EZ Dive) took the boat to the location, dived in and (later) reported that he saw a rectangular stone on the bottom. It took about 20 minutes to correctly position the boat. Krista Brown was my dive partner. We descended the anchor chain and ended up 120 feet down. We went across the level bottom to an approximate 45 degree diagonal incline of about 4 feet. On the lower side were coral heads, like those in the image. At that point my regulator began malfunctioning and I had to surface, though it did appear that we were in the generally correct area. I had planned to do a “drift dive” over the area to cover a greater expanse and increase the likelihood of locating the anomalies, but water and visibility conditions did not allow for that.

In the meantime the sub-bottom profiling produced results that the Ocean Tech team found to be surprising. Though part of the “Rectangle” was in water too shallow to scan, the outer half was accessible. On the outside of the “Rectangle” the strata followed a “normal” configuration, but on the “inside” the strata had been removed down to a depth of about of about 18 feet, implying a large scale organized labor project in ancient times. I speculate that this may have been an ancient reservoir. About six months later I received images of the side-scan project. It included several features that showed apparent orientations to each other, including two obvious rectangles with what look like thick stone walls, a possible basal terraced structure, and other anomalies. Two of the images resembled two from the 1998 scan, but from a much greater distance. Several months ago the A.R.E. (the Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment), using our Bahamian archaeological permit, did further investigations. Dr. Douglas Richards was given data from John Van Auken from our investigations, Joan Hanley’s, and recent one’s done by the A.R.E. He noticed an interesting overlap of anomalous features. They are all within a 1 mile long 1/2 mile area. The results of their most recent work are not yet available.

It is our plan to do on-site investigations, probably in the Spring of 2009, of the target anomalies using both a Remotely Operated Vehicle ( ROV) and a special “drop camera” with a connected GPS system to locate the features, dive on them, and photographically and video graphically document our finds. It is expected to take at least 5 full work days, possibly more, to investigate as many of the most “promising” features as possible. Since most of the features are between 80 to 100+ feet in depth it will only be possible to do 1 or 2 such dives per day per diver, hence the importance of locating targets by remote means first. The ROV. and drop camera are owned by two of our A.P.E.X. Board Members and long-time researchers. Verification of a single structure will have far reaching consequences archaeologically.

APEX Plans Return to Bimini

On it’s Website at http://www.apexinstitute.org, Bill Donato’s APEX Institute has announced plans to return to Bimini next spring with the intention of verifying that at least one of the previously visited sites is of human construction.

Unlike the so-called Bimini Road structure, the sites to be visited on the next trip are at a depth that would suggest they are approximately 10,000 years old! Bimini Road is in somewhat shallower water, suggesting that it might have been constructed no earlier than 3,000 B.C.

FINALLY … Some New Info on MEGA!

Paul Bader, editor of the Yahoo Group Atlantis News, recently alerted me to some new information about the search for the “lost city of Cuba” (aka MEGA). In an article on his Website, British author Andrew Collins reveals some previously undisclosed facts surrounding the discovery and sheds some light on why additional information about the discovery seems to have vaporized. In this interesting article, he even suggests that Zelitsky and Weinzweig have “simply vanished off the map” – something I know NOT to be true because…

Here’s the “news”, as told by Andrew Collins:

Cuban Atlantis Conspiracy?
by Andrew Collins

I regularly receive emails asking what happened regarding the apparent
discovery by a Canadian salvage company of alleged archaeological
structures in the deep sea off the west coast of Cuba back in 2001.
There was a lot of publicity concerning these finds at the time, then
the whole thing simply went dead.

Back then I had just written a book entitled GATEWAY TO ATLANTIS (2000),
which proposes that Cuba was the flagship of Plato’s Atlantis (see more
by clicking here). I also predicted that important underwater remains
awaited discovery off the island’s west coast. Now those discoveries had
seemingly been made, so I was patted on the back by my contemporaries. I
wrote articles on the subject, appeared on various radio stations, and
was even invited to lecture at the last ever conference organised by the
late Thor Hyerdahl in the Canary Islands, which took place in June 2001
(Regrettably, I was unable to attend as I was already lecturing in
Vienna that same weekend).

I was as excited as everyone about what had been found off Cuba by
Russian-born salver Paulina Zelitsky and her Canadian partner Paul
Weinsweig, who traded under the name ADC Communcations. I was involved
in the whole affair from the offset, interviewing Weinzweig at length on
the telephone, and speaking to them both on a regular basis. I was also
involved in setting up a publishing deal for exclusive world rights on
the story with publishers Randon House. So here is one email I received
recently asking what went on, and whether or not there was a conspiracy
to hush the matter up:

“We’re trying to find out why there is no more news on the sunken ruins
found near Western Cuba since 2004. No one has proven that the stones
are either natural or man-made. We’re beginning to believe there is a
conspiracy to make this find go away.

“I remember a while back you posted a comment on your website in which
you said you witnessed actual data from Paulina Zelitsky from ADC. You
said you had to be careful about what you said and not to disclose
anything they said was forbidden. Did you see anything suspicious that
would warrant a conspiracy? Is there anything that you can say that
won’t break your promise? Can you contact Paulina Zelitsky to confirm
why the public has not heard from them?”

And my reply: “There is no conspiracy, simply human necessities. Paulina
Zelitsky and Paul Weinzweig held out as long as possible for the best
possible deal on world rights to release pictures and video footage of
what had been found. I know, I was involved with the deal from Random
House, and was to have ghost written the accompanying book, which would
have been accredited to them (I was chosen since the agent working on
the project was working with me also, and I had just released GATEWAY TO
ATLANTIS, which pinpointed Cuba as the site of the main island of Atlantis).

“The money on offer was seven figures in pounds sterling (based on a
sliding scale of what had been discovered), but Paulina Zelitsky and
Paul Weinzweig refused the offer, wanting even more to fund their future
expeditions. They hoped that NatGeo would top the offer. However, when
finally the pair released video footage of what they had found it was
deemed both of poor quality and not what was hoped, and since Zelitsky
and Weinzweig had run out of money, a stalemate ensued. No further
footage could be got, so the Random House offer (which they could have
taken) was withdrawn. I have no idea what offer NatGeo made, but I
suspect it was afterwards withdrawn also.

“Zelitsky and Weinzweig had to go back to what they know best – treasure
hunting and vessel salvage, and no one has heard from them since. They
have simply vanished off the map. Story ends.

“This said, I firmly believe that prehistoric archaeology does await
discovery off Cuba, and hopefully within the next year I will take part
in a major expedition to identify suspected structures off both the
north and south coasts of the island.

“Cuba is by far the best candidate for Atlantis’s flag ship, and one day
hopefully we will be in a position to prove that.”

“What exactly Zelitsky and Weinzweig discovered remains a mystery.
Whether artificial structures, ballast from Russian submarines or
natural features, we might never know. All theories are possible.”
